Right? It’s sad to see that characters like Miroku from inuyasha are still being written as funny hot and lovable. Wtf Japan indeed. They’re still writing these stories with “sexual harassers with hearts of gold”. Like uh you can’t be both. In inuyasha miroku pervs on all the girls, especially kagome at the beginning and inuyasha was always calling him out as a creep and trying to protect kagome from him....and the writers had her take mirokus side! Because somehow inuyasha was in the wrong? For calling a molestor a molestor? All it goes to show is that harassing and assaulting women is still not only accepted but encouraged in Japan. This is why I stopped reading straight romance stories from Japan. They are just too far behind the rest of the world socially for such a developed nation. I tried to get back in thinking things might be different now but they’ve only proven to have made no progress.
You're so right I had totally forgotten about Miroku and the comparison is so on POINT. I watched Inuyasha as a young girl and its makes me SO mad when I think about how not only this "lets make the molester a charming, funny guy who's only 'joking' and 'doesn't mean any harm' by it" made me take his fucking side back then, but also how the way only Inuyasha/Issei stand up to it (all in good "fun and joke" since the narrative fucking makes it so) perpetuates the fact men shouldn't harass women not because its wrong but because THEIR BOYFRIEND said so. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ ugh I'm sorry for the rant lmao this topic just gets my blood boiling. I moved away from shoujos and general janapase manga for a while in favor of webtoons so I'm really dissapointed to see its already 2021 but they didnt change a damn thing. I really hope the narrative fixes itself before finishing this molester's arc, or else I'm so gone.
