that abusive family is all he’s ever known. he doesn’t know any better, he doesn’t know anyone’s intentions including the prince’s even though the prince is super sweet... but I mean you saw what he said about the kiss, he’s convinced that the prince only did it out of pity. he’s been raised and convinced that he’s a failure and a tool. he probably has no clue what the right thing to do is :(
