He's such an asshole! Its obvious he has no empathy for her, and when he does its because he's forced to by the circumstances. Tbh if he's the male lead i think it's just bad writing on the authors part. I hate when shoujou authors make shifty ml's and then slap a tragic backstory on him to excuse the abuse and neglect. Like oh boohoo you sent her dresses and money and she still doesn't like you? How about fucking checking up on her once in a while? Maybe giving a shit as to whether she's happy or not? I'm only reading this for the girl, I hope she runs away like she's planning to. Knowing this kinda format its not likely and she'll probably just end up forgiving the ml bc of his ~tragic past~ even though his personality and communication is awful and he treats her like dirt.

its bullshit cause if you know you're a bad person, being better is the bare minimum. It dosen't mean that your actions and the scars you've left will be magically healed, or that they deserve to be forgiven. Even if the ML does get redeemed, I wish violet doesn't forgive him because she doesn't have to. It sucks that just because he has a tragic backstory, just because he's going to treat her nicer in the future (bare fucking minimum btw, our standards are so low at this point that they're in hell), doesn't mean that her sadness and pain will all go away. (that also adds onto the fact that suicide in this story is handled so irresponsibly, as if depression is something that'll just easily go away once the abuse stops).
You know what sucks by the way, the fact that this story just uses suicide as a plot progression tool. He changes once he sees her commit suicide, and that's such a fucked up message to send, because it's saying "if you hurt yourself hard enough the people around you will truly start to care" when in reality those types of people are ones you should never be with in the first place. Yeah this story just took a whole bunch of risks and didn't even take the care to think them out properly:/

god your mind...... genius. Truly the mind of a master because I didn't even realize this until now. Reading this as a depressed person feels like self harm because this is the exact mentality depression and self harm puts you in. Like its enjoyable and cathartic only because I get to watch this mc hurt herself in ways I can't and the people around her start to love her for it, which is exactly what addiction to SH tells you is gonna happen to keep you addicted (spoler; it doesn't). The message this sends is truly terrible and its amazing to me as a mentally ill person that I didn't even realize until you pointed it out. Hands down one of the worst portrayals of mental health I've ever seen in manhwa (besides lady chef royale... that was a mess) I'm dropping this and I recommend all my other depressed babes to do so as well.
I hate the ml. Ok the things they don’t talk about are misunderstandings right? But when they do talk he fucking invalidates her trauma by saying he’s had it worse? As if he knows what she’s been through? She’s ducking suicidal and you say she wants attention? Is he that full of himself to think that she would kill herself for him? He doesn’t know anything that she’s been through and keeps on saying how she grew up nicely but does he know what she’s feeling? Just cause she has money means she can’t be suffering?
