So many feels right now why did you go and say that to him. You can adopt a kid and most importantly you should have talked about how you felt with him before you made such a rash decision. I need them to get back together asap.

you have to remember that this is based in Japan. In the US where gay marriage is legal it is incredibly difficult to adopt a child, in Japan, being homosexual is still swept under the rug and not talked about. gay marriage is far from being considered, and adoption is also going to be incredibly hard. years in the making. Thats why in a lot of these stories the couples go to other countries to get married or do adult adoption (which still isnt an easy choice because you are cutting all legal ties with your own family).

Yes it's true that it is still something that is not even considered in Japan. I just said it in passing because I know how difficult it is for them. That is why I said he should have spoken about his true feelings with his boyfriend before breaking up. However, I know he was just being considerate and caring about his bf's future.

this is slightly not related to what you're saying but, let's remember for the sake of knowledge that "in edo period Japan was exceptionally accepting, even encouraging, of male homosexuality and bisexuality. even japan's pre-modern society was one that not only tolerated homosexuality and bisexuality, but celebrated and even idealized it. it's just nowadays they're kinda in denial about LGBT issues even existing." quoted from a site i've visited abt japan's homosexuality though.

it may have been accepted and possibly encouraged, but it seems to me that it was more of a "dont ask dont tell" type of world. as in, we dont really care what you do behind closed doors, just keep it behind closed doors.
