Just wiggling a bit of my personal opinion(≧∀≦). The main reason Soohyun was obsessed with Eunsung was not because of the difference in their position or grades, rather I feel that it is some kind of disguised interest or want (for Eunsung ofcourse). Somthing the MC didn't understand. The want to monopolise and take over Eunsungs life. Well maybe always coming second place was just the trigger ╮(￣▽￣)╭. Soohyun already said he was not much for socialisation or "sense of community" as he said. He had no hobby, no interests (somthing I believe affects your personality and behaviour a great deal). So a life like that ,in most cases, are bound to create a sense of void somewhere deep in your heart without your knowledge. So chasing Eunsung mi8 be what was filling in the void. "Second place" mi8 just be an excuse or something Soohyun deducted by himself (lol no counselling partners). All in all I find Soohyun's character showing bits of psychopathic behaviour (idk if I'm wrong tho). And again i think that is what makes this story so interesting (even with parts cut off lmao).
Also another unpopular opinion, Eunsung mi8 be a bit obsessed with Soohyun too, like in the later chapters. Idrk but he gives of such vibes.

I was thinking the same thing, that all of this is likely because he probably likes eunsung in his weird twisted way lol and doesn't even realize it. Eunsung however seems to understand this i think.

He’s interesting, all this story is awesome, and I understand that if the MC wasn’t the way he is this story wouldn’t even be possible.
But at the same time he irks me so much. Gosh, he literally changed all his life to revolve around this one dude he hated in high school because boo hoo he’s better than me and I hate 2nd place :( It’s very interesting how people can be so unhappy just because of the way they choose to interpret life. MC could pretty much feel awesome for being ahead of so many people in school, he’s super ultra smart, 2nd place is hella great and he had a bright future. But he chooses to hang on that one person who was one place above him.
Okay, inferiority complex, I understand he’s upset about it. But to change his whole freaking life and even career just to chase after that one dude from high school who did better than him on tests? Put his life (and ass) in danger just so he can extract some form of twisted revenge from the Seme who literally never personally wronged the Uke in high school and was just chilling being himself? Wanting to take revenge on a person just because they’re naturally more talented than you is dumb. But I like that the Uke realized the dumbness of said obsession himself, and although he can’t stop, many time he thinks of himself as pathetic.
MC could have a way happier life if he let go of this obsession and stopped inviting all problems that literally aren’t even his onto his life just because of the Seme, but that’s the choice he made..... I really hope at some point in this story MC comes to cherish himself more and starts to look at the opportunists of life asides from the Seme.
Summing it up yeah, I really wish MC went to therapy. The Seme too. Yaoi therapy for everyone yay happy ending lmao
