I was told that Jonas' biological mother left some kind of will to Rudiger's mother that she has to treat someone with purple eyes respectfully. The reason was because of his father (the emperor) is obsessed with purple eyes. The princess was also a victim of her father's obsessive behaviors so she escaped from the palace by using the marriage.
When the emperor learnt about Judith's existence later, he also prohibit her from having relationship with Rudiger, so both of them can only date in secret
