Actually, even in history you can find out how the church abused their power and feared that they would lose this power through others. An example is how they used to hunt and burn witches even though they knew that witches didn’t exist and that they were created through the anxieties of the common people,...or something like that. I am not too sure but it was indeed something in that direction.
Except for the poor believers, religion has always been a scam :)
Omg the Salem witch trials... or just the witch trials in general. I was OBSESSED with reading the stories and accounts when I was younger. So sad what happened to all those people

That mother tho... she needs to be quickly stripped of any power she has- i get that she's useful for drama and character development but its just so triggering to watch abusive scenes, even for a webcomic Dx
