There is something called the golden child syndrome, basically is the favored child in a disfuncional family, they get all the love and praise will at the same time looking how the other family members get hated or are found faulty. With time they feel guilty for getting all the love or get scared of doing something wrong and getting hated too.
So I think is understandable if Ai feels guilty, his family who he loved was getting ignored and looked pitiful and he felt it was undeniably his fault.

i totally get that this isn't everybody's cup of tea, like its a fucked up story and theres really nothing you can say to argue against that, but all this authors works are like that, i feel like you can even go as far as saying that this really should be tagged as psychological, this author doesn't really do cute heartwarming stories
The criticism I have with this story has nothing to do with how dark the story is. Trust me, I have read some fucked up shit like Harada, horror BL, and psychological BL which is filled with rape, addiction, obsession, infidelity, murder, gang rape, etc... I enjoy dark stories which is why I picked this one up. However the story is a mess from beginning to end. The guy who is obssesed with Betty (not Makoto, the other one) is willing to put his grandpa at risk of death because he wants to save Betty, a guy whom he hasn’t even spent more than 24 hours alone with and who has made it crystal clear that he doesn’t want saving. He doesn’t have a single appearance on the manga which is him by himself. Every time he appears is because either Betty, Ai, or Makoto want something from him or have to tell him something. The only other time that he is seen is when he is framed as a hitman. Before then, we spent several chapter not having seen him by himself. He is only used by the author as a plot device, nothing more. His and Betty’s story should have been either A) the main one or B) a side story that should not have been introduced first. There are too many plots and none of them are given enough time to be fleshed out. Makoto’s rejection by his mother, Ai’s guilt for being the favorite child, the incest, the father wanting to turn Makoto straight, Betty’s infiltration and betrayal as well as his backstory, Kuki’s entire revenge arc, the battle for succession of the gang, the mother’s infidelity, etc... There are so many issues with the logic of the story that makes it difficult to coherently follow. That’s why I personally don’t like it, not because of how dark it is.

ok yeah i agree with everything at the end, it did get confusing and there was a lot going on, but i don't like the guy, he's so boring, lets be honest with each other neither of us even know his name LMFAO so i don't hate the fact he's not getting more attention but thats totally a personal preference thing
Definitely. Everything's just fucked up. I didn't like the way it was going in the first few chapters but I was thinking like I should give it a chance, trying to understand more but yeah, i prefer way darker stories that are fleshed out and plotted really well..
if you say that this is a good story you need help, this could have been a great story abt how betty and that other boy escape makoto or ai gets his revenge on makoto for r*ping him by killing him but to me it just doesn't make sense why ai feels guilty towards makoto it feels forced that he feels bad usually when one sibling is getting favored over another they get a superiority complex abt it but he seems way to mature at that young age when he started to feel bad to even allow himself to get his r*ped as repentance for his mothers favoritism is just idiotic
