She does get stronger later
Well... she gets better at hadling her anxiety, the more she gets closer to riftan, in fact thier were alot of sence where she argue with riftan in the novel, or sence where riftan gets mad and she thinks to herself "Wierd he seems pretty mad, but I'm not scared, I don't feel like he'll hurt me" and she opens up to other people as well!

Riftan caught her father in 4k... right on the act while his father was about to whip maxi once again... I'm seriously gona kill that mf...(╯°Д °)╯╧╧
Yes.. but it was aft they lost something precious to them ;( (dk if i shud spoil) but she thought riftan hated her so she went back to her father, where she was locked in the tower she used to be in. Riftan came to pick her up but her dad said sth along the lines of how she wanted to remain here and riftan was heartbroken thinking that she prefered stayinf back here so he almost left. Her dad called her useless that riftan doesnt want her anymore. Until her sister directed riftan where to go and riftan walked in to the sight of maxi's father about to hit her. . Riftan was absolutely furious because her dad said something like "this will make her listen" and "the healer can heal her after anw" so he beat the shit out of her dad until he almost died and asked the sister to get the healer o heal the dad.
He was angry and asked her how long this has happened. Maxi was afraid and she said she didn't want riftan to find out because she was afraid he would abandon her if he know how she wasn't the 'noble' lady he envisioned. All along he thought she was given a lot of riches and care that he felt unworthy of her. Only to learn that he should have brought her back before he left last time because she suffered so much. It was such a sad scene when riftan felt so heartbroken to learn maxi was abused
