We shouldn’t place modern views on a historical manhwa. It just completely dumb since this story isn’t told in the 21st century. As for the father, rumors are is that her father is dead. (We don’t know for sure.) truthfully I believe the father just abandoned them because of the large debt but he was the man of the house but now that he gone. Nobles would take everything he own in replacement of the debt. Including the children/young women. (Most modern loan sharks does that too.) In this timeline they treat women and children as objects. Even worse if they’re lowerclass. Sadly this is how the past (and sometimes the present) was. But in a way that was a better option since let’s think about it. They had a choice of her working as a maid for 10 years or the sick aunt being put into jail. Let’s mention how if the aunt was put into jail and everything they owned is gone she would either end up as a slave, on the street dying of starvation, or prostitution. The option of being a maid is the safest especially since it seems like she would be working for the princess.
shes stated to be a child (minor?) but how can a minor sign and close a legal contract for her indenture? something like that should have made her involvement and the document she signed null and void. i had thought maybe it would work if she was somehow sold or forcefully tied as collateral rather than giving herself up of her own volition, but i guess the authors trying to make room for ML to not be entirely criminal ish. well this is just a trivial technical thought ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
