It is the time line of events that makes it hard to sympathize. This timeline and the past timeline share a beginning. They both got married while the father in law was secretly threatening the ML. In this timeline before Elle was born the FL dismissed all her shitty servants. And yet the father in law, that should be keeping tabs on everything, did nothing. They have been to multiple pubic events together as a couple, they even wore the same color dress and tie to one of them. That, based on the FL response, is a signal that they are close. And yet the father in law has yet to do anything to the Fl or the Ml.
Now maybe the writer is waiting to do something big down the line with the father in law and his threats, but as of now he ain't done shit. So what was the difference between now and then? If it is just that the Fl is more active now that's gonna be kind of a let down. Like that would make the ML seem super weak as a person and as a noble. His wife, spirit user or no, as a woman she would have less power than he does in society and within the dukedom. And yet she, before reveling her spirit user status, was able to just dismiss her shitty servants. She wasn't told that she had to ask her husband first. She was able to just do it. She had the power all along but was just too abused and depressed to use it.
What is his excuse for letting another man run his house then? Why was he even still letting the father in law come around after gaining the dukedom? You got what you needed from him, you got your power, so ditch his crazy ass. Even if he ditched him after the baby was safely delivered. Like, at that point it should be obvious that things have gotten really nuts. Gather the people you know are yours and kick his folks out. Instead he just kept letting the father in law control things.
EXACTLY. I thought the condition was that if he treated his daughter badly then he would make the ML the duke. Okay well.....the ML became the duke so why did he still treat the FL like shit??? In the current timeline, him treating the FL nicely has had NO CONSEQUENCES so far. He is a whole ass duke now. What is the FIL really gonna do to him??
The ML is now a duke. He could have been ready and prepared to fight those people back and expose the father. Why has the FL not died yet in this timeline if the father has people ready to kill the FL at any given moment???

Y’all are way too easy on these shitty MLs. This backstory still does not justify how he treated the FL. He could have taken the time to explain to his wife why he had to treat her coldly behind the scenes, but he didn’t. He could of helped her receive mental health care when he saw that she was unable to take care of her child, but he didn’t. He left her to die alone and allowed no contact with HER child. You’re claiming this man is emotionally inept, but this still doesn’t justify how badly he treated his wife??? While she was mentally ill he had full control over her life and wellbeing and did literally nothing for her. Currently, there’s no reason to like the ML lmao. I might feel bad for him, but I still hate him.
