I agree! That does not mean its healthy though. As someone with a cnc kink themselves (tmi) stemming from abuse it is really not a healthy way to cope, even if I can't control it. There are a lot of coping mechanisms for abuse but this one is basically just retraumatizing yourself in the name of kink. Hope he gets better and this isn't played off as some quirk bc dude obviously has shit he needs to work through.
Anyone participating in BDSM due to trauma does the same thing. It’s not just cnc. This is what I’m saying. Coming from both sides myself, both trauma and personal preference, I get and totally understand what you’re saying. Nothing about BDSM is considered “healthy” in the eyes of society.
I’d rather him be happy because he has finally come to the realization that he can actually enjoy sex and have fun and also falling in love. That is also a part of him dealing with his issues. If he was stuck in the trauma, it would feel like a chore and his dialogue in the comic would reflect that. He wouldn’t express the feelings he’s having now. You get what I’m saying? Sometimes it takes a person to be happy in order to deal with trauma they’ve faced. They are at a solid point in their life where they can do the work to get better. Now, will the author decide to use this in the story? We won’t know. I’m just looking at his situation as a whole and not looking at the kink itself.
