So I've read the raws and this is just my inference:
Basically, both the uke and the red-haired friend liked each other. They are more than just friends who experienced tough times together (mostly the red hair guy had a sad background). Their bond is so deep that they did not want to label themselves as boyfriends for it might affect their friendship (I'm guessing this part). The uke has a hard time opening up to his feelings because of his character. Since the brown-haired seme showed up, he has to decide whether to let go of his friendship to the red-haired friend or pursue his feelings to the brown-haired seme. Although he accepted to date (?) the brown-haired seme, the uke still can't get over his feelings to his friend.
That's all I can guess for now, still waiting for the next chapters....

I get that he has a hard time opening up but his now hurting two people the red head seme by not being honest with his feelings and just ditching him, plus the brown haired seme who is oblivious and thinks everything is all good. Judging by the cover brown haired will be end game but even still I can’t deal.
