    I think is like tell dad mi viejo or mi vieja in latinoamerica

    I dont think so. Maybe coz he was a yankee and i usually see those words used by such characters. Like they have a hard ass persona.

    In my country we use term like that too! It's not as bad as it sounds, because it is used as an exaggeration. Fe you say your father "my old man" or "the grandpa" as a pet name to tease him for his age
