That's not how age of consent works. It's 13 just so teens having sex with other teens without getting arrested, so a 13yo can date a 15yo and so on, so their relationship is *more* illegal than we think.
And yeah, this is the only age gap relationship I can read because I already started and it got me hooked, but I think most people are aware this is not an ideal relationship, or at least I hope so. At least Kousuke doesn't take advantage of the fact he has authority over Masahiro.
Tbh, I wish these kinds of relationships were portrayed less. This already started but we don't need more, people get comfort in reading these things when they're in similar situations where there's a power imbalance and think "maturity" is all it takes.

There's something about just being able to date 2 years older and 2 years younger, and also prevent relationships where there's a one or two year gap but one of them turned into a legal adult while the other one still hasn't.
So, no matter the "age of consent", their relationship is illegal in Japan.
Thanks for explaining it more! Hopefully people see it and not try to romanticise it. The age gap is so unnecessary, this could be based in college and it'd be legal and nothing about the actually story would change. Such a shame.
I do love this story but I think this needs to be said, their relationship is illegal. I keep seeing 'age of consent in japan is 13', but that doesn't change the fact that he's a minor, and the other is 28. Plus ones a student and the other is his teacher. That is illegal. Enjoy the manga or whatever I dont mind, I enjoy it too. But don't try to justify their relationship as if its real life. Its only okay because its fiction, dont get confused and think this type of relationship is okay in real life.
