It's a stereotype. And this manga just happens to play along with that stereotype. It's the same as any other culture that holds a stereotype about another culture. Also, if you looked up this stereotype, you'd probably be able to figure out how this stereotype came to be.

Mmm theres a few European cultures that do, I think its getting less common. And what you're talking about is a cultural greeting not a racist stereotype so you're safe.
Sometimes people do an air kiss on the cheek and an actual kiss on the cheek is still done even in the US, just less common.

Can the mangaka stop with the "American kiss greeting " already. I love this manga and all the manga with that one line about them being half american and a kiss is just like that to them. But it's just an excuse and not true at all. What do they think of Americans? A kissing monsters ? Just don't like the manga world spreading this things. It's funny in some point but it's uglier at times. I just tend to not be serious about it because all the manga I've read that has that line was absolutely adorable so i skip that thing in mind.
