Actually, i think that saintess is useless. She is not even trying to save ppl. She just study to be with her crush - commander. But aside from that she had not done ANYTHING!! she is just sitting there and waiting her time, even without actyally lesrjing how to use her magic. How is she supposed to be usefull if she does not know even basics of using magic??? I bet, she would be just staying still on battlefield, hoping that the commander would just come and save her. She is useless, truly. She does not even tried anything much to ease the position of the other otherworlder.

You can't really expect much from a completely average 16 year old. Especially where in the purification part in the novel, they've only been there for about 3 months or so? It's actually not like she doesn't care, it's that, her only reference is most likely shoujo sekai fiction she's read in the original world. I don't think I've seen the MC's on those genres state the economic conditions of the kingdom.
And sometimes you really need to consider the age gap between Yua and Kondoh. They're 14 years apart so it's not too surprising if you don't pay much attention to the 30 year old you've only met once.
Some differences of their motivations (I don't know how to word it exactly) were were pointed out in the light-novel and it pretty much made sense. Yua's your average average heroine who tries to save people but put in a more realistic setting while Kondoh's a corporate slave who doesn't think with his heart so he can have the best outcome.
My guess is that Yua thought Kondoh was living his best life since they most likely informed her as well that the king has given him the living expenses to stay in the kingdom. (which he did (If my memory is still bright))
Hmm I have to respectfully disagree... he isn't doing it because he wants to better this new world.. its just what he 1// is as a person 2// what he has been conditioned to be like from his previous world.. if he was actually doing it to better this new world he would have stopped caring about it when he was sick even just a little bit but its shown he just has this issue where he feels like if he isn't working then he isn't worth anything, however the saint is just a naive girl who has suddenly been givem a position and love from people, thats why she got so worked up when he told her "think carefully" so she isnt thinking rationally at the moment I think they're completely different
Hmmm..then reasonable. But is not a month enough to realise all situation she is in and start from small thjngs, such as practising magic? 3 month had passed and she still dont know anyyything. I know she was co flicted in the beginning, but should the whole kingdom wait another month or 2 the saint to begin her studies seriously? Or will she wake up only after attack? And i am not talking abt finances. Even if she had only as reference those stories she read, does not mean she should be a little faster in accepting the position she is in, and start the basic training?? Now i have a negative prospect abt the saintess, but will fully judge her after she spend more time in kingdom
thinking about it now, the mc is kinda like the Saint but from the sidelines
hes trying to fix their fucked up financial system before the miasma gets too intense and fucks people over bc of the lack of supplies and necessities in order to stay alive.
no matter how "useless" he initially was to the kingdom since he wasn't part of the plan/ritual, he's actually playing a really big role in this entire thing. whether he knew that or not, by throwing himself into such affairs, the kingdom is in his hands too.
now im not saying the Saint herself is useless, she's the one literally and directly saving them by purifying the miasma and whatnot. but if our mc wasnt there, the kingdom is would've been fucked either way bc the allocation of the budget is beyond fucked, putting priority over the higher ups like the knights than the common people, who make up most of their kingdom.
hes sacrificing himself for the kingdom, even if he doesnt know this bc all hes doing is what he knows-accountancy and handling finances.
but our love interest is here to keep him in check despite not exactly understanding Why our mc is stupid stubborn the way he is. mc is like that bc he's overworked to the bone and it's normal for him, for good or for worse.
tldr; MC's stubborness is what's indirectly saving this kingdom, at the risk of his health, even tho he doesn't know this in the grand scheme of things bc he's only doing his job bc its the only thing familiar and comfortable and similar to his old world ヾ(☆▽☆)
