Because she thinks that as long as she doesn't do something that the "female lead" from the book should do then she'll be fine. They never think that doing some things might change the tale besides she [the original] really had died when she took over which had already changed the story.
Logic, you do something not written in the story means you altered it. Her sense of humanity already altered it by getting permission for him to walk under the sun, her bribing the guards to see him in his cell, and now with what she just did was the final turn of the key changing the story entirely. ╮(￣▽￣)╭
