I believe the reason for this isn’t due to double standards (at least not entirely) but more so hatred towards stereotypical misogynistic views of woman. That they’re weak, get flustered easily, vulnerable and needing protecting. It’s so common that when a strong female character shows up more often than not we immediately get attached. As @grace juice said, Yeonwoo breaks the image of toxic masculinity while FL establishes that woman can be independent and defend themselves, so we’re more inclined to accept the change. I get what you’re saying and for some, their may be hints of double standards but I don’t think that’s the primary cause (:

I think ppl like him Bc he isn’t an airhead or lacking in personality. Most female mcs who cry a lot are airheads with no real struggle. He’s dif from them Bc he has insecurities and horrible anxiety so it’s understandable for him to cry a lot, unlike female MCs who cry for dumb stuff. The gender doesn’t matter to me, their personality does

Lmfaoooo what your internalized misogyny is showing
You probably one of those people that op mean.
In this case you TRY TO UNDERSTAND what yEonwoo feels, like u said itis insecurities and horrible anxiety that is why you said it is understandable he cry a lot. If you noticed many Female Characters even in dumb shoujo struggle with this too they constantly feel like their lacking their not good enough and things like that except people never go out of their way or even try to understand the female character struggle like you did for the Male Character struggle here <---by Male Character here I mean Yeonwoo
You see, (some) people try to undetstand male character struggle but (some) people don't even try to understand female character that have the same struggle with the male character. Instead they hate on the female character<that experienced almost the exact same struggle with male character>
Sorry if you think the caps is me being rude it's not I was capslocking it because that is my point

there was nth misogynistic abt what i said go look up what it means instead of using that to insult ppl who disagree with you. i dont react the way other ppl do so idk what you're talking abt. yeonwoo clearly has severe anxiety, majority of shoujo they dont cry from anxiety they cry over stuff like a guy they never spoke to liking someone else. i never praised him either i just said why people react to him a certain way. his anxiety is relatable so ppl understand and pity him more. a lot of FLs like i said act stupid and brainless and cry over dumb crap which most ppl cant relate to, which is why they find them annoying. yeonwoo also cried/got upset abt FL possibly liking somebody else, even tho he never made a move which I felt annoyed by. but his love intrest isnt his only struggle, like a lot of FL from shoujo. idkw you people claim ppl attacking women when theres brainless male MCs who ppl complain abt too(majority of Yaoi). People don't complain abt Yeonwoo bc he feels fresh and like a real person instead of an overused shoujo washboard character. not everything is an attack on women calm down

My bad maybe using the word internalized misogyny here is too aggressive because I don't agree with you. Also I did say praise but I added <in this case sympathize> so I never said you praise him. Our 'stupid' standard in shoujo is probably different, cause even in the dumbest shoujo i read the male lead is not the only thing FMC cry about, they usually have some backstories that made me at least understand a little bit why are they like that.
Okay i am starting to see your point however this still don't deny my argument where (some) people out there praise/defend/sympathize (some) male character for doing the same thing that they hate (some) female character for

Mmm gonna butt in for a sec and say that though your argument about double standards does apply, I think you’re arguing against the wrong person because they’re never disagreed w/ you in that aspect. They also mentioned how most of the annoyance is caused when the FL is portrayed as pitiful in order to make the ML seem “strong” and supportive. Basically it’s used as a plot device rather than a means to round their character (aka to emphasize their personality.) Most shoujos aren’t like this because if they were, nobody would be talking about this in the first place.
If crying is used to portray their character and people still have a problem with it but don’t when it’s a man then it’s an issue of double standards. But since the commenter never said that was never the case, I don’t see what your argument towards them is when y’all seem to have the same opinion .-.
yeonwoo cries a lot.. i feel like if yeonwoo is a female character readers will dislike and find him annoying. ik few female character in other story that cries a lot, "too innocent", and is blushing almost every moment too just like yeonwoo but readers find her annoying not feeling sympathetic like these people in the comment sect. i saw sooo many "uuw my baby yeonwoo i'll jump haein if she hurts him blablabla" kind of comment here. i bet if yeonwoo is a female character y'all won't react like this lol.
