she can’t deny the prince or stand up for eris, if she denies the prince she’ll get treated incredibly bad since he’s the reason why she’s alive, and she wouldn’t want to stand up to eris cause it’s not like she likes eris. eris bullied her for so long and if she were to stand up for her all of a sudden it’d probably make the prince think that it’s one of eris’ schemes and view helena as the victim
Big agree. The prince is also royalty while she comes from a fallen family. Standing up to the prince can be seen as an act of treason/rebellion, and according to what we know about this novel - people have been killed for way less.
Alright, yeah I get that but I don’t like how she went on a self righteous story about how she’ll forgive the main character. Also, her not knowing the reason proves she’s stupid.
The main problem i have with Helena is that her justification is she cant do anything and has no power so she choses to play the fool and that how she justified playing dumb to her self... and to us..
And yet we are show not onece but twice.. that this "i cant do anything and have to act dumb to all" is just an exuse...because she straight up pulls not only the Head maid but also Eris aside to apologize for acting dumb.. and also tells them both that she knew she "could" have done something but chose to do nothing and have them both be punished.. This literaly contradicts her "i have to act dumb in front of everyone and keep the fact that i understand everything a secret".. Like you expect me to belive those are the first times she has done so? If it was so imprtant for her to "keep her cover as dumb" wth does she go out of her way to tell the ppl she has wronged.. "om im just acting dumb".. The only reason for her to do so is to satisfy her selfesteam.. but that works agains her to..
Think about it... someone you work with screws up or gets called away and you end up cleaning up in their stead, your fine with it... Then later the same person pulls you aside and tells you "Im sorry you had to clean that".. That would have been fine.. but then they continue with "btw im only acing dumb and clumsy, will you forgive me?"..
The first part would have been fine... but she goes out of her way to explain that she understands it all hence its a straight up slap in the face..to the person she is asking for forgivnes from.
Add to that the fact that half the time we are to see her as weak and powerless but then next half she is free to do what she wants and be strong and smart and independant..
Yet somehown understands Eris's cercumstances.. yet failes to see how she herself impacts that.. Like is she just straight up ignorant or has all of her "playing" ignorant locked some of her mamories away to only some forward when needed.
I am in no way glorifying Old Eris or the princes bad behavior.
I just cant stand when a character keeps contradicting themself with both their words and actins and yet are ment to be look weak..

I still don’t like her, she is naive. She talks about forgiveness for not knowing what she’s done wrong but it’s pretty clear. How could she not know? Does she pretend to not hear the whispers of others or just use her fucking brain. If she had stood up for the main character I wouldn’t dislike her but not once did she ever stand up for our main character or denied the prince. She’s plain stupid and it irks me.
