I hope what I think is going on isn’t true but his using him to fill the void left by the woman he loved, this seems rather obvious but I almost got swept away with the things he told him, like he was cute and so on. But between the lines there’s this replacement vibe to it like he’s seeing her through him and not really looking at him. Really suspect if you ask me... crossing my fingers that it might be sincere.
