He didn’t have any guilt at all. So he didn’t love her as well he all over didn’t care for her.
It was more like he felt guilt cause he started to love her. He read her diary and there he was able to get her known. He basically never talked to her and she was more like a stranger.
He started to notice about her personality and started to get feelings for her. Then reality hit him and he felt guilty that he never once tried to talk to her etc.
So not guilt > love, rather it’s love > regret
oooo i like your break down of this, i feel like thats what the author was trying to hit at but it didnt get executed that well which caused many of us to think hes just guilty
