I think about that one expression “cut-sleeve” which is like the ancient equivalent of “that’s kinda gay”. Originates from the story about the emperor whose male concubine fell asleep on the emperor’s sleeve. Instead of waking him up, the emperor just cut his sleeve off instead to get up, so that’s where the expression comes from

    it's not just "that's kinda gay", but it actually alludes to homoeroticism in ancient chinese literature.

    didn't make that assumption, but kudos to you for remembering that. I don't know though if the writer means that since they're Korean.

    yeah i heard of this. They say the emperor was assassinated and then that male concubine was forced to take poison by other subjects so he couldn't assend the throne.

    An oft-used euphemism during Pu's time for male homosexuality was "cut-sleeve", a reference to "the passion of the cut sleeve" between Liu Xin, better known as Emperor Ai of Han, and Han politician Dong Xian.[2] According to History of the Han, the emperor, upon finding Dong sleeping on his sleeve, and having been called to a meeting while lying with his lover, cut off his sleeve rather than stir the boy from his sleep.[3]
