coz 2nd mls mostly treated as errand boy, even in reality we do have a 2nd ml we dont notice in our lives. They are there everyday but it doesn't make your heart thump like mostly ml and fls (couples). Most 2nd ml pretend they are happy and don't make a move on you. Yes you have been with that 2nd ml for 10 years but did he step on the next base? No? right? Thats why most of your neighbor remained as childhood friends only, simple as that.
Yeah thats why if a certain background character has like this person and there is a timeskip, its noticeable he is not male lead material. Coz most male leads will all try to get you and won't waste their time.
First some 2nd ml do be stepping onto second base so u can’t even say that and ion have a ml or a 2nd ml in my life so ion rlly care bout that part and if they been there for so long longer then the ml it’s just no way someone not gone going to think about a relationship with them at some point for 10 years someone that’s been by ur side since forever ye ion believe that... but idc it’s my opinion they seem like it would be a cool couple

the good thing about 2nd mls when they recover and find their real girl (w/c is not mc/,fl), they take note of the mistake they commit while courting you And also move on. But that takes years before someone genuinely make their heart thump. This time on that routine they won't be 2nd ml anymore coz they know what to do now. They didn't even know that a secret background character supportive of him/her could be their fl.

we are talking about 2nd mls right? Not the male lead? I'm pretty sure there is a distinct emotion and feeling the mc only get when she is with him. The familiar feeling of the 2nd ml mostly is friendship or familial bonds. You don't think of a future with that guy coz you know them, and you dont think of them as lover type.
Story wise there timeskip that don't show you deveopments. Reading abridge (shortened) comics like this won't give you the full feeling of every scenario.
Ml and 2nd Ml/support are unrecognizable in the beginning becoz of words, they're just random characters until a certain description describe them properly or tell their story.
I'm telling you without images or pictures you won't even say that this certain character is 2nd ml. He is just side mostly in novels.

the example I'm talking about is the recent retelling of Snow white. The hunter becomes the 2nd ml just becoz they change some of his description. Now do you get what I mean? We do know the Prince is the ml and that is already word of God . Both ml and past support (now 2nd ml) have their roles expanded.
