It looks like he's standing by a hospital bed at the end. Rie's likely hospitalized, and the son's probably been helping w/ the house in that instance. I don't think it's anything romantic, at least not on the father's part.
I was thinking the same thing. There were also the reactions during the conversation that spelled out clear as day there was something the father wasn't saying. I also didn't get any romantic or lustful vibes from the father when speaking about his stepson; it seemed more like genuine gratitude for everything the stepson had been doing to help him.
The son is 14, so it wouldn't really be shota.
I wonder if the dad has a crush or something on his son... might be that he married Rie in order to stay close to Rie's son or something, idk.Seems likely, given how much he was talking about his son rather than Rie. And when the older guy mentioned that he has Rie, too, he looked a little lost.
