Definitely. Some ML's act so shitty to FL's and they forgive them purely because of how they had bad experiences. Whether this is an ex, abuse, death etc...
Though there have been more worse backstories for characters, I didn't think the ml would have such a tragic backstory. Pain, regret, sorrow, and at such a young age as wall... he has long term trauma but hides it fairly well but it's good he's beginning to move past it thanks to the fl
