There isn't a scene in the novel where LWJ gave WWX his pellet drum. Actually, they didn't meet until WWX visited Cloud Recess.

A lot things are different from the novel is each adaptation, so it's better to read the novel from the start.

Ah yes just as what the others said, this is not canon in the novel. There are many things that are in the donghua and that are not in the novel. Both can stand pretty much well in their own. In my opinion, even though the donghua does somehow and somehow not follow the novel, its canon diversion is great as well and for me it is the most tragic adaptation of MDZS. The most accurate one is the AD then this manhua. The Web series is good as well.
