I think there is a spoiler somebody said even before he spoiled and adored his daughter but after an incident involved with the death of his wife and he couldn't protect his wife, also thinking his daughter didn't like him before thinking he was the one who killed her mother. So he tried to distant away from her or she distance herself from him first. So their relationship during that timeline was troubling. Guess there were misunderstandings on both their parts. I think this timeline she was able to approach him by herself and he might have had a chance to get back to where things were with his daughter. Sorry if this sounded like a mess lol. It'll be revealed on the future anyways.

That’s my problem though, he neglected her to the point where she thought he’d tell her to kill herself. If my mom handed me a knife in that situation I’d understand what it meant
Yep as I have understood, the dad always liked her daughter but he's a shitty dad that doesn't understand the concept of neglect. I also think the knife was given for self-defense since he said "survive" which as far as I know is the opposite of dying. Pretty sure the duke and prince had some sort of scheme in the first life, like perhaps prince was supposed to bring the daughter to a safe placw or explain that they're going to overthrow the emperor or smth but she didn't know, she was scared and she had a knife. Can't wait to see duke's face in the past when prince tells him So yeah, your kid killed herself at the sight of me with the knife you gave her. (No idea if such a scene even exist but I want it and want to see duke grumple and loose himself in agony and sadness. But the dad's personality is Like:
