Well, when diversity comes up to about 2.2% in a country with a population of over 130 million people, there’s not that many options. Did I mention that out of that 2.2% 1.64% of the people are from China, Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Japan isn’t like America, their diversity is limited and it isn’t because of any prejudice either. I bet you 100$ this artist doesn’t even know the meaning of colorist, furthermore you should understand the beauty standards because over 97% of the population are native Japanese. It’s pale skin, which guess what? Is appealing to the Japanese readers, which is who the artist is catering to. Smh

First of all, not being from America doesn’t mean you’re Asian, there’s also all of Europe, and a shit ton of other countries beyond that. so please clarify smh. I’m also speaking from experience by the way. You think I haven’t been to Japan and I haven’t lived with the Japanese people? The fact of the matter is most Japanese, like a lot, are very welcoming and not racist at all, especially to foreigners. From my own experience Japan isn’t “one of the most racist countries.” Now, again I’m going to say this the beauty standard for native Japanese people is pale polished skin, BUT for people not from Japan that’s almost never the case. Japanese people understand “foreign = probably doesn’t have super white skin” and they’re very very understanding of that, it’s the same thing for weight, and other standards.
To sum this all up, in my experience in Japan I’ve never seen somebody shame dark skin, like.. ever. Especially because MOST Japanese people haven’t even seen a black person in real life. I’m ngl though, what annoys me the most is that people are losing their shit over like.. a 5 second panel when the goddess blesses her.
Theres a lot of colorist undertones in this manga. kinda sus
