I think it stems from Maetel asking Louis to be the "substitute" for the white rabbit in chapter 5 and never clarifying that Louis is, in fact, the white rabbit. And Maetel heavily implying that Louis needed to be the "stand-in white rabbit" or else he wouldn't cooperate with the serial killer investigation. Their "relationship" started in the wrong way and Louis thinks that Maetel is just playing games and is getting hurt because he thinks that he's just a substitute for the person that Louis wants.
Typical dumb yaoi misunderstanding that could be cleared up with a conversation.
How the hell the rabbit boy got that conclusion?
