You do know the setting is back in the day when women were considered weak and dainty. Also it is true that a noble women with no training would probably never win against a man properly trained and that not all soldiers are nice people. So Edward was being considerate and a little harsh about the truth about what can happen to the pink haired girl (forgot her name). Edward is also mostly scared that Rino will get hurt.
Literally how does any of this justify the author writing it like this. Regardless of the time period or whatever excuse the very least they could do is portray the behavior as problematic. The pink haired girl literally played a crucial role in a literal war wtf. Edward knows shes not weak, she's saved his ass before. He's just sexist.
