Here's the deal, this series is not 'that' kind of series. There are shounen ai series, that start and end quickly, mainly because if the story is about guys getting together, well, they get together, maybe there are a few mishaps in the middle, and they end up together or dead or something. But this series has a different angle: it's mainly about adventure with a side of shounen-ai hints to keep the fangirls interested and waiting for the kiss. It is an evil angle, because you keep reading and reading and reading waiting to see something substantial but instead you keep getting hints and fanservice ad eternum. My humble guess is, if there ever is a kiss, it will happen very close to the end. (It's been 15 years, let's hope it happens soon). I'd say we'll be lucky if we get a Gakuen Heaven sort of ending. Maybe if the fujoshis sacrifice their valued doujinshi to the god of yaoi we'll get to see something. In the novels, it is hinted that there's a lot going on behind the scenes, but Yuuri (who tells the story to the readers) is simply hiding all the "interesting" details.
