Okay, so the story is very complicated and told in a very round-about manner....
Once the KDC (Kim dokja company) reaches the end, they finds out that Kim Dokja who appears to be a child is the most ancient dream(MAD). KD tries to kill him to end it all but Secretive plotter stops him and takes the child with him. But the world can't exist without the MAD so KD secretly divides himself into 51/49 % with 51% staying back and 49% going back with the KDC. Now, fast-forward, he starts to see the very very first timeline of YJ. After the first scenario, he notices that his constellation backer is not there so he hurriedly sends the req to YJ to be his backer, which he selects... the 0th regression was the most perfect one with YJ actually reaching the ending but never meeting KD. He asks him once if he goes back to his past, will he be able to meet KD and KD replies yes. That's how the regressions started.
Another major spoiler. Who is the author of WOS. It is actually Han Sooyoung who wrote that novel. She knew that was the novel which saved KD when he was going through depression and read the first chapter of the novel. She dreamt about it and waited for KD to read the novel but she found out that no such novel exists... she kept waiting but at the end since no one uploaded it, she and the 4th wall were the one to upload it.
