Exactly! Even in the world today, you always hear (at least I do) that the people who would make the best politicians/leaders don’t want to do the job.
They often have different reasons, but one of them is that they don’t think they are the perfect one for the job -the other one I often hear is it’s too much stress and work for a reward of just being bashed or misunderstood all the time.
Sorry, I’m now that I’m thinking about this, I’m not entirely sure this fits with your comment specifically, but you get the point: a lot of people who would do well in the positions have to get through the hurdle of the stress and work first. So when you get one who suits the job well and does the work does it matter if someone who may *look* better for the job shows up? Go with the one who suits the role rather than the flashy one who doesn’t care and just looks good or acts well in that seat!
