I've read that he will betray MC because of his love(feelings~) for her, he sort-of made a deal with the possessed FL for the MC to be safe(will not be killed) and possibly be with her with the right status (even if there's a low possibility of him and MC being together after what he did, he was still fine with it as along as in the end MC will be safe (not totally K. O. ) )......
