no, it's not a side story. hwan turned sooin into a vampire so that he wouldn't die & since sooin's blood was "toxic" to hwan, it turned hwan into a human. now, sooin is a vampire and hwan is his link.

it's not rlly just like an alternate universe, in the last chapter b4 the epilouge chi-Hwan is dying but soonin turns into a vampire (too lazy to go back and look and see why) n while he's dying chi-Hawn kinda turns into a human for a second and soonin makes him his link
