I think you guys misunderstand? white dude says "he couldn't even make a heir and had to make his sibling his son" so no incest happen because he clearly stated that he can't make a heir and they are siblings, the one he called father is actually is older brother.
But Christian literally said his brother can't have his own heir (meaning he couldn't successfully make a child) so the head made Christian his son tho

Can you please point out which chapter exactly it is? As the only family I can remember of doing interbreeding is the family of the child Hilise saved.

Even if the father had interbreeded with his own mother, it doesn't matter because that would make the both of them brothers but /also/ father-son. So the house would have an heir even if it's the result of interbreeding. I believe they are brothers.
A theory would be that the head was the result of interbreeding and since he may be infertile because of that, he adopted his youngest brother as the heir. Since they seem to have a lot of age difference, the family who needed a new head but couldn't put an infant to do the job, let the current head of the house to be the head and forced him to adopt the newborn as his as to not embarrass the family with his genetic disease or something like that.
If he was adopted, he wouldn’t be able to use any of the powers from the house. It’s passed down genetically. He’s not adopted, they’re blood related.

They are blood related indeed. They are after all siblings. When they say 'adopted' I think they meant that the head adopted Christian as his son. Since he is originally his brother, he has now become the head's son. Not adopted him from another family.
I hope you get my point. It's kind of confusing but I think you've misunderstood what the comments were saying so I am clarifying it based on my understanding.
