She mentioned it in the story. Something about not being able to handle the rejection if the main guy shunned away from her because she was pregnant with another man's children.
It is important to note that this was after her parents died, the guy who got her pregnant told her to abort the child and her brother told her to leave because he didn't want to handle her problem (Being a single mom).
I don't think it is that hard to sympathize with why she hid her pregnancy. Her choice was not stupid as you mentioned (although there was one scene where she was trying to climb some rocks which I thought was stupid. She's pregnant for goodness sake she should be more aware of safety...).
