In her (mother's) youth she was a good girl and she was temporarily chosen as a saint. When she got the power, she didn't want to stop being a saint and made a deal with the devil. He gained fake wings and evil power and thus became more and more cruel. After her daughter (Leticia) borned, she started to lose her powers gradually, she hates him, and I think she thinks that if she kills her, her lost powers will come back.
