I think it's because of consent. She hasn't acknowledged her feelings for him (even if they are there) and they are not in a relationship, so the whole issue regarding consent is murky.
He wouldn't do it if she were awake because she would refuse or become upset, but she trust him enough to fall asleep in his presence and he is technically taking advantage of that, and the relationship they have is one based on mutual respect...this is not very respectful.

Yep, also I feel like they think it's a ticking process to give consent. Apparently, you have to fill all the boxes to be not morally incorrect. Everything is so robotic. Relax GenZ. Life is never 1s and 0s.

Don't think it's cancel culture. Consent is consent and so is the lack thereof, don't know why this is such a difficult concept for so many people...I mean do you go touching people and kissing them without their consent?, cuz I am sure that's a crime -_-

And I am sure many novels other stories have this kind of what you call "creepy" kiss the girl when they don't have consent part of the plot. So I guess, ya all reacting to it as creepy too.
