Characters aren’t always going to make the best choices its what makes them realistic
Shes a 3 dimensional character with emotions so she crys. Shes in a stressful situation where she is helpless to stop it. Its all she knows how to do. Its what shes been taught to do. Its what she is encouraged to do.
If this was how she chose to survive, she did it.
Im hearing all this hate on Helena but not a single word on the royal family pulling the strings or Eris’s father helping. They are pretty flat characters. Antagonist that the protagonist has to defeat nothing else really.
Lets think if Helena were the MC with the way the current story is going. Her story would be about how she was forced to do all this stuff pretend to be happy about it and probably get disposed by the empress once they are dine using her. If she was the MC everyone would be rooting for her and ignore the fact she never tried to help Eris
