Why is everyone so harsh to Khalid?

I know betraying his long time friend was an absutley trashy thing to do, but they were loosing the war and if they didn't surrender then literally more people will die? Based on the conversation with Khalid and the king they were surrounded but MC didn't want to surrender. So either he betrays her or literally hundreds of civialnd would have been killed? Look at it from his perspective, his close friends and colleagues, and maybe even the citizens, see him as an absolute traitor, but more people survive, or loose the war and have hundreds of people die because you wouldn't surrender?

that’s not how war works tho. war isn’t just what happens on the battlefield, there’s diplomacy and politics. of course idk how those things are manifested in this plot specifically . but realistically civilians would die whether or not khalid betrayed the knights.

Um if you read carefully, you'll understand clearly that what Khalid is saying is not what happened. They weren't fighting when he killed her. She was also a soldier so how is killing a soldier instead of the king, who gives those soldiers the orders, going to end a war? So, again, despite the fact that it only ever gets used when it comes to a jerk male character readers love defending, this IS the time people should be falling over themselves to say, 'we need a backstory on this character (FL) before we can judge'. This is also why I say the spoilers made me hate Khalid worse.

Well based on their conversation I think that was the very last resort so I don't think anymore diplomacy would have fixed theirs situation at that time. And yes people would have still died, but realistically speaking wouldn't less people die if they surrendered rather that going with an all out war and still end up loosing? Well its all just speculations since the plot hasn't reached that yet haha ( ̄∇ ̄")

I mean it kinda did end the war though? Also as of the moment I hate Kahlid too haha I'm just saying ( based on what I've read and understood since I havent read passed this scanlation yet) that what he did ( which was absolutely trashy) might have had more of a reason behind it. Well for me it's all just speculations atm so idk haha

I read from the spoilers that the country the FL was protecting were the villains in the war, like police covering up politicians crimes. They were using the FL for evil deeds and Khalid killed her to protect her from the higher ups using her and to keep her thinking she was a hero fighting for good and not a devil of war.
