Reynold does care for her. You'll get to see it in the upcoming chapters but aside from callisto, the hunting competition gives reynold and vinter some more character development. Plus Penelope said that whilst all the commotion with the bird thingys was happening, reynold was pushing through all the people trying to get to penelope so he could protect her. There is a distinct difference between reynold and derrick espically towards penelope. Derrick was right there and he left her to defend someone else but reynold, someone who was far away, was trying his best to protect her. i don't want to say any more than that bc i don't want to risk spoiling anything
