N that was Gok's 1st ever loss n seeing Gok suffered from the loss of his best friend, Hwa decided not to take the same path as Gok (becoming a vampire) as he realized that it is difficult for immortals when they faced the loss of someone they loved so dearly... That's why Hwa remains a lycan (n he also became the new lycan leader in the end)

Well sadly, the author explained that Jinsoo died in a car accident back in season 1 (but it wasn't shown)... N that was the first time Gok had experienced a loss of someone he cherishes so much I was really hoping for him to be on season 2 too tho tbh
