I know - you said he's not the emperor's son, which technically excludes him from taking the throne. The princess, however, is the daughter of the emperor and the empress. Even their half-brother is a concubine's child, making him less eligible.
That's what I meant - she's the child that's most eligible, bc she's the daughter of both the emperor and the empress. Her other half-brother is only a concubine's child and Rezef technically can't even take the throne, not being the emperor's child

Good question. He's born in the palace, so people might think, naturally he's the emperor's son. If the emperor found out about the truth after Rezef was declared the crown prince, he might try to protect his pride, bc his wife having an affair might indicate that he's not perfect. I know this all sounds very hypothetical, but it makes sense in my mind.
This got me thinking, isnt it quit ironic for the emperor to hate cayena and rezef when he himself got a concubine? Isnt that just a fancier and legal term for cheating?? ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

I really hate that polygamy premise in manhwas. It's only utilised to bring more conflict into a story, which is what a good plot does, but I don't like that polygamy is used to do it. Whenever there's a king with a harem (bc that's essentially what it is), I can't muster a single drop of sympathy when he goes through hardship or dies. The second he has more than one woman, he's dead to me.
