If one spouse is gone, the other spouse does not have any obligation to pay off debts with that spouse's name, only debts in birth their names. Banks and companies will still try to collect though.

Doesn’t our guy by law, have to pay off his “husband’s” dept regardless since they were married? I thought marriage means also sharing finances and things so he didn’t even half to be a co-signer.
