Likably twisted

I really like how dark and messed up this is without being unbalanced. Sometimes, there are twisted stories I really enjoy, but there is one person (usually the uke) who gets shit on and another (usually the seme) who is untouchable (save, perhaps, for a secret weakness for the other). In those cases, I can't help but wish once in a while the tables would turn, and the "untouchable" would find out what it's like to be crapped on, or at least acknowledge they were acting like shit (not just "sorry they hurt the other", but saying they were wrong). Of course. most of the time things just stay one way, and that's fine, really. But I do like a story with balance, even though I prefer twisted to fluffy.

In this story, Rogi lives in a messed up world where people are brutal and he apparently never had morals as such anyway. He's done some really crappy things. But he also knows what it's like to be the one shit on. He's been through a lot. He's paid his dues. And he has real feelings, so he's not a sociopath. He was sincere with the writer, still carries unrequited love, and his daughter is everything. This is a man with heart--a messed up, dark, SM man who uses others cruelly, but still a man with heart. And he's hot.

I think I will really enjoy this story.

eh, this really isn't dark and twisted. if you wanna know what's dark and messed up, read itou-san or caste heaven. stories by this author always end up being sweet and fluffy.

Twisted is relative. By dark, I don't mean I'm looking for a depressing ending. I like a happy ending. To me, fluffy is when there is a sticky-sweet approach to the romance. This story is about a rapist who is in the yakuza, and has already shown us the MC's love blowing his brains out in front of the MC while playing Russian Roulette during BDSM sex, and the MC masturbating to his new love while the old love's corpse has not yet cooled. That is not fluffy. To me, it's not a happy ending that makes something fluffy--it's the whole content.

I love Scarlett so far. Her yuri stories strike me as fluffy, but then I have a hard time with most yuri for the same reason. For me, her yaoi hits the right balance of dark elements and complex characters with the desire to see the characters I like be happy in the end.

But to each her own. I like Caste Heaven a lot too.
