Probably the company owns the rights to production and the author owns the rights to the story/characters/likeness. So the author can't produce content for it without infringing on the rights of the company, and the company can't either without infringing on the rights of the author.

Hi me again. Just learned this comes from a novel, so the artist probably has no rights to the work of they were part of a company.
