And yes I get that the kid either admires him or has a crush on him but it’s pretty obvious that the teacher isn’t discouraging it and the giving him a ride home and telling him to keep it a secret between them was creepy asf and in some places it’s just not okay for a teacher to talk so casually to a student

I would definitely think it was weird in the U.S., but maybe things are different in Japan. The people at the barber shop didn't seem to think it was strange that the teacher and Hirose were there together.
Also, the teacher just passes the vibe check imo. Like, out of context his actions seem super sus, but he's never been shown to have any bad intentions. (That said, this IS a fictional work where we have the benefit of knowing characters' intentions, and this sort of student-teacher interaction would probably be inappropriate irl)
