Well, tbh he is not being understanding, he is merely rationalizing the situation in order to cope. He is the one in love, for him, to be able to mantain a physical relationship with the object of his desire was already consdered a fluke. Doesn't mean he is not suffering. And the whole thing will still goes on for much more...
He's more understanding than i thought I'm really happy that the story is not following the same "misunderstanding" narrative as the other cliche stories like he's actually thinking rationally and taking his time to understand and not be angry
